Day 189: Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Quote of the Day "There is more refreshment and stimulation in a nap, even of the briefest, than in all the alcohol ever distilled."  Ovid

Change of the Day  Green Change #30Take a Power Nap and Turn Off Your Computer

As I was researching a green topic to write about for today's Green Change, I listened to the message my body was sending me and took a nap.  I usually don't plan naps, so it's hard to tell how long they'll last.  Your body is pretty smart and is likely to give you the right amount of bonus sleep you need to get you through the next part of your day or night.

So what's so Green about a nap?  Other than being green with envy for those who nap on a regular basis, you are also powering up yourself by powering off the grid.  Even your computer is likely to go into "sleep" mode during your nap. The greenest thing to do with your computer, however, is to power down (i.e. turn it off) when you are not using it.  One of my pet peeves when working in offices is when any of my fellow workers leave for the night without turning off their computers.  I am so conscientious about saving energy that I shut down my computer even during my lunch break.

Why we are so tied to our computers in the first place is a question we will consider at another time.  In the meantime, today's Song of the Day is short and sweet just like a good nap.  Pleasant dreams.

Bonus Quote: "
No day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap." Carrie P. Snow

MyChangeNow Vision

No one has all the answers.  Our Vision for this website is that it will become a global forum for the sharing of ideas about Personal and Social Change from citizens all over the World.

Ideas need to be turned into action.  MyChangeNow plans to add Social Networking tools that can help you connect with others, so together we can begin to improve our communities, states, countries, and the World.

To develop the kind of website infrastructure that can present the voices and ideas of potentially millions of people requires financial resources that MyChangeNow does not currently possess.

Help Us Build a New Social Change Network

As you explore the MyChangeNow website and begin experimenting with the Personal Changes that we recommend and consider the Public Policy solutions
that we propose, your financial support is the key to helping us expand the capacity of the MyChangeNow website to allow your voice and other voices to be expressed.

Please consider a
Donation to MyChangeNow, so we can quickly fulfill our vision of building a Social Change Network.

About Mike Kockler:  I was born and raised in Pennsylvania.  I received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from American University in Washington DC and a Master's degree in Teaching History from Boston College.

I've spent most of my career as a high school history teacher and as a university advisor in student affairs focusing on organizational development, leadership, and social change.

I founded MyChangeNow in 2011 to help make changes in my own life and connect with others to find solutions to the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing the world today.

When I'm not contemplating world issues, you can find me reading, writing, running, hiking, or walking on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii.  I have yet to find my soul mate, but I haven't given up looking.   For more on me, see the
